Various Steps of Variety Development From R&D to Commercial Sales
Understanding and defining the requirements
Our team collects feedback and understands the requirements of various value chain partners for each segment being targetted.
Then starts the brainstorming and rigorous discussion among the team to define target traits for each segment keeping in mind latest trends, major challenges and scope for value addition.
Development of hybrids and selection
Our team of highly qualified breeders develop numerous combinations based on information summarised for the crop and segment. Shortlisted hybrids from these combinations are then planted across target markets to evaluate for target traits, adaptability, value addition element and disease tolerance levels.
Multi location trials
Once the breeder evaluations are through, shortlisted hybrids are then handed over to our product development team for rigorous trialling at grower fields across target agro climatic zones. Our team tests the hybrids in all growing seasons and then concludes on the final hybrids to proceed for commercial launch.
Commercial seed production
We take up seed productions very carefully and choose production locations keeping in consideration the expertise of producer farmers and disease intensity in the region. This step is very important to get disease free seeds for a healthy final crop. Once the seed is harvested and cleaned, it is brought to our processing facility in Bangalore where it is further cleaned to remove any residual inert matter and light seeds. We then get final lot of seed with uniform size and weight across.
Quality check
The processed seed is then presented for sampling to quality control team for evaluating it on various quality parameters namely germination, physical purity, genetic purity and moisture. Only the high quality seed lots are retained for commercial sales.
Commercial seeds processing and packaging
Quality approved seeds are then handed over to seed processing team for seed coating/treatment as per the requirement. This treated/coated is then checked for moisture % before packing in final packaging material to dispatch.
